GEICO Knight & the Pips

GEICO was founded by Leo Goodwin and his wife Lillian Goodwin in 1936 to market auto insurance directly to federal government employees and their families. Goodwin was inducted into the Insurance Hall of Fame due to the success of the company.

Gladys Knight & the Pips were an R&B/soul musical act from Atlanta, Georgia, active from 1953 to 1989. Best known for their string of hit singles from 1967 to 1975, including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” (1967) and “Midnight Train to Georgia” (1973). The longest-lived incarnation of the act featured Gladys Knight on lead vocals, with The Pips, who included her brother Merald “Bubba” Knight and their cousins Edward Patten and William Guest, as backup singers. As of 2007, the Pips appeared in a commercial for auto insurance company Geico.

Doritos (which, according to Frito-Lay, is Spanish for “little bits of gold”) is made from ground corn, corn oil, and seasoning. It also rhymes with other Frito-Lay brand names Cheetos, Tostitos, and Fritos (which is the Spanish word for fried).

Chevy Chase (born October 8, 1943) is an Emmy Award-winning American comedian, writer, and television and film actor. In September 1993, Chase hosted The Chevy Chase Show, a weeknight talk show, for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The show was cancelled by FOX after only six weeks. Chase later appeared in a commercial for Doritos, airing during the Super Bowl, in which he made humorous reference to the show.

It has been said that the name “mozzarella“, which is clearly derived from southern Italian dialects, was the diminutive form of mozza (cut), or mozzare (to cut off) derived from the method of working. Other theories describe its origins as a minor preparation of “scamozza” (Scamorza cheese), which in its turn probably derives from “scamozzata” (“without a shirt”), with allusion to the fact that these cheeses have no hard surface covering typical of a dry cured cheese.

Arby’s was founded by Forrest and Leroy Raffel in Ohio in 1964, who were determined to own a fast food franchise based on a food other than hamburgers. The brothers wanted to use the preferred name of “Big Tex”, but that name was already being used by an Akron businessman. They eventually decided on the Arby’s moniker, based on R.B., the initials of Raffel Brothers, thus Arby’s, LLC, was born.

Irish stepdance is a type of performance dance originating in Ireland from traditional Irish dance. Irish stepdancing has been recently popularized by the world-famous show “Riverdance” and its followers. Irish stepdance is performed in most places with large Irish populations, though not all stepdancers are of Irish ancestry.

The first use of the name “chimpanzee“, however, did not occur until 1738. The name is derived from a Tshiluba language term “kivili-chimpenze”, which is the local name for the animal and translates loosely as “mockman” or possibly just “ape”. The colloquialism “chimp” was most likely coined some time in the late 1870s.

The Pentium II brand refers to Intel’s sixth-generation microarchitecture (“Intel P6”) and x86-compatible microprocessors introduced on May 7, 1997. They featured an improved version of the first P6-generation core of the Pentium Pro CPUs.

The amount of Homer’s brain which still functions is also questionable.

Doritos is a brand of flavored tortilla chips produced since 1966 by the American food company Frito-Lay (a division of PepsiCo, Inc.). Doritos are sold in many countries worldwide in assorted flavors.

Ranch dressing is a condiment. The dressing is made of buttermilk or sour cream, mayonnaise, minced green onion, garlic powder, and other seasonings mixed into a sauce. Ranch became a common snack food flavor, starting with Cool Ranch Doritos in 1987, and Hidden Valley Ranch Wavy Lay’s in 1994.

James Douglas Muir “Jay” Leno (April 28, 1950) is an Emmy Award-winning American comedian and television host, who succeeded Johnny Carson as host of The Tonight Show in 1992, and as of 2007 has served as host for roughly half the amount of time that Carson served.
