The Quarter Pounder is a hamburger sold by international fast food chain McDonald’s, so named for containing a patty with a precooked weight of 4 oz, a quarter of a pound (113.4 g). It was introduced in 1971.

The Big Mac had two previous names, both of which failed in the marketplace: the Aristocrat and the Blue Ribbon Burger.

Gorton’s also has a North American foodservice business which sells to fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s, and an industrial coating ingredients operation. It has been headquartered in Gloucester, Massachusetts since 1849.
