In many western European countries, the term limonade, from which the term “lemonade” is derived, originally applied to unsweetened water or carbonated soda water with lemon juice added, although several versions of sugar sweetened limonade have arrived on store shelves. The French word limonade, which originally referred to unsweetened lemon-flavoured water or carbonated soda, has since come to mean “soft drink,” regardless of flavor, in many countries.

The first marketed [non-carbonated] soft drinks in the Western world appeared in the 17th century. They were made from water and lemon juice sweetened with honey. In 1676, the Compagnie des Limonadiers of Paris was granted a monopoly for the sale of lemonade soft drinks. Vendors carried tanks of lemonade on their backs and dispensed cups of the soft drink to thirsty Parisians.

Country Time is the name of a brand of lemonade drinks owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS).

Chrysler Cordoba was the name of an intermediate personal luxury coupe sold by Chrysler Corporation in North America from 1975 to 1983. It was the company’s first model produced specifically for the personal luxury market and the first Chrysler-branded vehicle that was less than full-size. Although Córdoba is the name of a city in Spain, the car’s emblem was actually a stylized version of the Argentine cordoba coin. Either way, the implication was Hispanic, and this theme was carried out with somewhat baroque trim inside and by having Mexican movie star Ricardo Montalban as the car’s advertising spokesman.

Ricardo Gonzalo Pedro Montalbán Merino, KCSG (November 25, 1920 – January 14, 2009) was a Mexican television, theatre, and film actor. He had a career spanning decades and multiple notable roles. In 1975, he was chosen as the television spokesman for the new Chrysler Cordoba. The car became a successful model, and over the following several years, was heavily advertised; his mellifluous delivery of a line praising the “soft Corinthian leather” upholstery of the car’s interior, often misquoted as “rich Corinthian leather,” became famous and was much parodied, and Montalbán subsequently became a favorite subject of impersonators. Eugene Levy, for example, frequently impersonated him on SCTV. In 1986, he was featured in a magazine advertisement for the new Chrysler New Yorker.

PG Tips is a brand of tea in the United Kingdom; its manufacturers Unilever UK claims that Britons drink 35 million cups of PG Tips a day. Since 1956, in the longest running advertising campaign for any brand, PG Tips often advertised using chimpanzees dressed as humans and drinking tea: the “Tipps family”.

One of these adverts, called “Mr. Shifter” holds the world record, for the advert shown most times on British Television. A whole range of figurine chimps were made as collector’s editions for PG Tips, and some are very rare. All the chimps in the adverts were featured (including Kevin Tipps and Mr. Shifter).

The word girdle originally meant a belt. In modern English the term “girdle” is most commonly used for a form of women’s foundation wear that replaced the corset in popularity. Constructed of elasticized fabric and sometimes fastened with hook and eye closures, the modern girdle is designed to enhance a woman’s figure. Most open-bottom girdles extend from the waist to the upper thighs. In the 1960s, these models fell from favor and were to a great extent replaced by the panty girdle. The panty girdle resembles a tight pair of athletic shorts. Both models of girdles usually include suspender clips to hold up stockings.

The term ‘pantyhose‘ originated in the United States, referring to the combination of ‘panties’ (an American term for women’s underpants) with sheer nylon hosiery, meaning they are usually worn without other undergarments.

Upskirt is a slang term usually referring to up skirt photography, images of the view up a woman’s skirt (as seen from underneath), including shots of a woman’s underwear, or exposing her vulva or buttocks.

To a degree, “gentleman” signified a man who did not need to work, and the term was particularly used of those who could not claim nobility or even the rank of esquire. Widening further, it became a politeness for all men, as in the phrase “Ladies and Gentlemen,…” and this was then used (often with the abbreviation Gents) to indicate where men could find a lavatory, without the need to indicate precisely what was being described.

Kool-Aid was invented by a Gerard and Edwin Perkins in Hastings, Nebraska. Its predecessor was a liquid concentrate called Fruit Smack. To reduce shipping costs, in 1927, Perkins discovered a way to remove the liquid from Fruit Smack, leaving only a powder. This powder was named Kool-Ade (and a few years later, Kool-Aid due to a change in government regulations regarding the need for fruit juice in products using the term “Ade”). Perkins moved his production to Chicago in 1931 and Kool-Aid was sold to General Foods in 1953.
