Snocrates is in search of the ideal snack

Del Monte aggressively marketed Snausages [a dog treat that resembles miniature hot dogs] upon the product’s launch in 1984, using a talking dog mascot named Snocrates, a pun on the name of the philosopher Socrates. The product’s catchphrase: “The most fun a dog can eat.”

Snocrates was originally a real dog, however, a week before the ad was due to be filmed, Snocrates unfortunately fell down the stairs and got a broken leg. As there was no Snocrates, they decided to use an animated dog as their mascot instead.

Del Monte Foods is an American food production and distribution company based in San Francisco, California. It offers canned goods in Del Monte, S&W and Contadina brands, pet foods under Kibbles n’ Bits, 9Lives, Pounce, Milk-Bone and several premium brands, canned tuna under StarKist Tuna, and other foodstuffs.

Combe Incorporated, based in White Plains, New York, is a privately owned personal-care company founded in 1949 by Ivan Combe. It is best known for its Odor Eaters line of foot-care products. Combe also owns the brands Just for Men, Lanacane, Scalpicin, Vagisil, and Grecian Formula.

Gorton’s Beer Fish

Gorton’s of Gloucester is a subsidiary of the Japanese seafood conglomerate Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd., producing fishsticks and other frozen seafood for the retail market in the United States. Gorton’s also has a North American foodservice business which sells to fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s, and an industrial coating ingredients operation. It has been headquartered in Gloucester, Massachusetts since 1849.

Batter is a liquid mixture, usually based on one or more flours combined with liquids such as water, milk or beer. Egg is also a common component. Often a leavening agent is included in the mixture to aerate and fluff up the batter as it cooks (or the mixture may be naturally fermented for this purpose as well as to add flavour).

Monty Norman has been credited with writing the “James Bond Theme“, and has received royalties since 1962. For Dr. No, the song was orchestrated by John Barry who would later go on to compose the soundtrack for 11 future Bond films. Courts have ruled twice that the theme was written by Monty Norman despite claims and testimony by Barry that he had actually written the theme. Norman has consequently won two libel actions against publishers for claiming that Barry wrote the theme, most recently against The Sunday Times in 2001. It is generally acknowledged that Barry came up with the arrangement used in Dr. No.

Das Chicken Teriyaki Sandwich

Teriyaki (kanji: 照り焼き; hiragana: てりやき) is a cooking technique used in Japanese cuisine, wherein the foodstuffs are broiled or grilled in a sweet soy sauce marinade (tare in Japanese). Fish—yellowtail, marlin, skipjack tuna, salmon, trout, and mackerel—is the primary ingredient used in Japan, whereas meat—chicken meat, pork, and beef—is preferred in the West. Other ingredients that may be used in Japan include konjac and squid.

The 2001 book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser criticizes Subway‘s franchising policies. It claims that in the 1990s, Subway was involved in many legal disputes with franchisees, usually over encroachment (overly aggressive expansion, in which two restaurants are so close in location that they end up competing with one another) and high royalties. The DFNV (German Franchisee organization) is very critical of Subway’s franchise conditions.

Domino’s Pizza, LLC is an international pizza delivery corporation headquartered just outside Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. It was founded by Tom Monaghan in 1960. As of 2006, it had 8,000 corporate and franchised stores in more than 54 countries.

Pizza or pizza pie is the name of an oven-baked, flat, usually round bread covered with tomato sauce and cheese with other toppings left optional. Mozzarella appears to be the cheese of choice. While originating as a part of Neapolitan cuisine, the dish has become popular in different parts of the world.
